This exciting three-week immersive program offers high-achieving international students a powerful dual-track experience on the beautiful University of Washington (UW) campus, combining immersive English and cultural learning with the AI and Innovation program led by experts from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Students strengthen their English reading, writing, and communication skills through interactive classes with experienced instructors while experiencing the vibrant culture of the United States. They practice English in real-world environments, engage with U.S. cultural experiences, and explore Seattle’s iconic landmarks and dynamic technology hubs.

 

The program also equips students with practical academic skills, including crafting compelling college admission essays, mastering strategies for the SAT Reading and Writing section, and preparing for the Duolingo English Test (DET). Through interactive workshops, guided practice, and individualized feedback, students build confidence in academic communication, analytical thinking, and problem-solving.

 

At the same time, students explore the transformative power of Artificial Intelligence—one of the most important technologies shaping the future of business, education, and society. The AI and Innovation sessions, led by experts from MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), introduce students to key concepts, real-world applications, and the mindset needed to thrive in an AI-driven world.

 

Beyond the classroom, students experience Seattle itself—one of America’s most innovative and beautiful cities. From iconic landmarks to dynamic technology hubs, the city becomes part of the learning journey as students practice English, engage with culture, and connect classroom learning to real-world experiences.

 

Over the course of three weeks, students strengthen their English, expand their global perspective, gain early exposure to cutting-edge technologies, develop practical academic skills, and build lasting friendships in a supportive learning community. This immersive program prepares students with the confidence, knowledge, and experience to take the next step in their global academic journey.

Curriculum at a Glance

Language & Culture Program

The Short Term English Program (STEP) is delivered by the University of Washington International & English Language Programs (IELP). STEP classes are taught by experienced instructors from the University of Washington International & English Language Programs. All instructors hold advanced degrees. This track focuses on rapid vocabulary growth and real-life communication skills.
 

  • 15 Hours per Week: Structured instruction from 8:30 AM to 11:50 AM, Monday through Friday.

  • Placement-Based Learning: Student are grouped with peers at a similar English proficiency level (Beginning to Advanced).

  • Real-World Application: Instruction centers on practical activities, such as interviewing Seattle residents, analyzing U.S. films to improve listening, and delivering cultural presentations.

  • Skill Development: Emphasis is placed on listening, speaking, idioms, and learning American expressions in authentic situations.

  • Small Class Sizes: Enrollment is strictly capped at 18 students per class to ensure personalized attention.

AI & Innovation Program
The AI and Innovation program, delivered by Blade Kotelly, Senior Lecturer from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), introduces students to the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence in shaping the future of technology, business, and society. Through interactive sessions and hands-on discussions, students explore how organizations adopt AI, how innovation moves from ideas to real-world impact, and how future leaders can think strategically about emerging technologies.

Students will learn a simplified version of Blade Kotelly’s innovation framework, a structured process used to guide ideas from concept to practical implementation. The program also introduces the Huggins–Kotelly AI Adoption Matrix, a strategic tool used to understand how organizations evaluate readiness for AI, manage risks, and scale innovation effectively. Through collaborative exercises and group discussions, students will analyze real-world examples of AI adoption and explore how different industries integrate new technologies.

 

By the end of the program, students will be able to:

  • Understand the fundamental concepts and real-world applications of Artificial Intelligence

  • Apply a structured innovation process to move ideas from concept to implementation

  • Recognize how organizations evaluate AI readiness and technological adoption

  • Identify opportunities and challenges in deploying AI responsibly

  • Develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills for an AI-driven future

  • Gain insight into how innovation shapes industries, leadership, and global economies

Academic Strategy Program (Optional)

Week 1, College Admission Essay Prep
The college admission essay prep program is delivered by Dr. Shawn Swanson (UW). Students will Learned the art of narrative storytelling to craft a compelling personal statement for university admissions.

The first week focuses on the high-level writing skills required for elite university admissions during approximately three-hour workshop on Monday afternoon. Leveraging Dr. Swanson’s background in professional communication and technical writing, students will learn to deconstruct prompts and develop structured, evidence-based narratives. The primary deliverable for this week is a college admission essay draft, which is due the following Monday. Each student will receive individual grading and feedback from Dr. Swanson to identify specific areas for improvement in rhetorical strength and clarity, and can visit his office hours during the week for extra support.

Week 2, SAT Reading and Writing Prep (Optional)
This session provides targeted strategies for the integrated Reading and Writing section of the digital SAT, delivered by Dr. Shawn Swanson (UW). 

In the second week, the Monday afternoon workshop focuses on SAT strategy and preparation. This instruction addresses specific test-taking methodologies for the Reading and Writing section, including time management and question-deconstruction techniques. Students are assigned SAT prep materials as homework, which must be submitted for grading by the following Monday for feedback from Dr. Swanson. Dr. Swanson will be available for extra mentorship during office hours. This phase prepares students for the full practice exam they will take together on Wednesday of the following week.

Week 3, Duolingo English Test (DET) Prep (Optional)

In this session, students will familiarize themselves with the adaptive digital format of the Duolingo English Test through targeted practice, delivered by Dr. Shawn Swanson (UW).

 

The final week focuses on the Duolingo English Test, a modern, adaptive assessment that requires familiarity with specific digital response formats. The sessions will cover test-specific prep materials and response strategies. This week serves as the culmination of the program's English focus, with students completing a practice SAT test and a practice Duolingo test. Dr. Swanson will be available for extra mentorship during office hours. These assessments provide data-driven feedback before the final closing ceremony.

A Typical Week

Each week combines academic learning, innovation exploration, cultural experiences, and residential campus life to create a balanced and immersive schedule.


Morning
Students participate in the English Language & Culture program at the University of Washington (UW), where they strengthen reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills through interactive classes and group discussions. Lessons focus on real-world communication, American expressions, and cultural understanding.

Midday
Students enjoy lunch on campus and have time to relax, connect with friends, and experience daily life as university students living in the UW residential community.

Afternoon
Students attend the AI and Innovation program led by experts from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), along with academic preparation sessions that include college admission essay development, SAT Reading & Writing strategies, and Duolingo English Test preparation. These sessions emphasize critical thinking, problem-solving, and future-ready skills.

In addition, students will engage in curated Seattle cultural experiences—exploring the city’s vibrant innovation ecosystem, local communities, and iconic landmarks in Seattle. These experiences provide meaningful exposure to American culture, technology hubs, and the dynamic spirit of the Pacific Northwest, enriching students’ global perspective while complementing their academic learning. 


Evening
Evenings feature organized campus activities, group projects, cultural experiences, social events, group dinners in the UW dining hall, and study hall, giving students opportunities to practice English, build friendships, and experience American university student life.

Weekend Excursions
Weekends include guided trips throughout Seattle, where students explore the city’s iconic landmarks, vibrant neighborhoods, and technology-driven culture while continuing to practice English in real-world settings.

 
This balanced schedule allows students to learn, explore, and connect, making the most of their three-week experience both academically and culturally.

Program Fees

Program fee is US $18,900 for the three-week residential experience.

This fee covers all academic instruction, on-campus housing, meal plans, and participation in the core academic and cultural programs hosted at the University of Washington (UW) campus. Students will participate in immersive English learning, the AI and Innovation program led by experts from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), academic preparation workshops, college application writing workshops, SAT and Doulingo prep workshops, and curated cultural experiences throughout Seattle.

Optional Add-On Experiences:

Students may also have the opportunity to enroll in optional enrichment workshops, specialized classes, sports coaching, or additional cultural activities offered during the program. These optional experiences are not included in the program fee and may require an additional cost.

Certificates

Students will receive three certificates upon completion of the Elite University Prep and Residential Summer Camp. They will earn one certificate from the University of Washington for completing the Short Term English Program (STEP). They will also earn two certificates from Overton: one for the AI and Innovation program with Blade Kotelly (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), and one for the College Admissions Strategy program with Dr. Swanson (University of Washington).

The Program is open to beginning to advanced English learners—you only need basic English skills to participate. Residence Hall

Students in the program will stay in University of Washington (UW) residence hall on campus, giving them a true taste of university life in the United States. The residential setting also provides convenient access to classrooms, cultural activities, and Seattle’s iconic landmarks, making it an integral part of the immersive program experience.
